Rainbow trout (Onchorynchus mykiss) is on the top 20 major fish species produced in Aquaculture, reaching in 2018 a quantity of 848.1 thousand tonnes. It is a popular omnivorous fish cultured mainly in fresh water with optimum temperatures between 12-21 °C.
Nutritional requirements of rainbow trout are extensively studied and well known. Among its features, rainbow trout doesn’t need carbohydrates for growing – even if digestible carbohydrates can improved their feed conversion ratio- and their main fatty acid requirement are EPA (20:5n-3) and DHA (22:6n-3).
